Sur+ is a nonprofit founded in 2025. We're currently fiscally sponsored by the Greater Washington Community Foundation until our 501(c)(3) status is confirmed.
Sur+ fights food waste and hunger in lockstep with our community partners across Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. We're the tie between businesses with surplus food and those who need it most.
Food is meant to fuel life, not contribute to environmental harm. Yet, billions of pounds of nutritious food go to waste every year, while millions of people go hungry. It's a moral and environmental crisis we can't ignore. At Sur+, we believe that surplus food should never be discarded when it can nourish someone in need. By redirecting food from waste to hunger relief, we not only reduce waste but also create lasting impact, Bite X Bite.
Our goal is to normalize the donation of surplus food, driving a large reduction in food waste. Ongoing progress in reducing food insecurity comes from steady access to recovered, healthy food. A clear drop in GHG emissions comes from diverting food waste in our local communities.

The arch in our logo represents the strong, supportive bridge we build, uniting food with those facing hunger. The ribbon lettering of our logo, with its gentle curves and flowing movement, symbolizes the seamless flow of surplus food to those in need. It also reflects our commitment to approachability, compassion, flexibility, and gentleness. Together, the name and design reflect our dedication to fostering sustainable growth, strengthening connections, and expanding our positive impact on individuals, families, and the planet.

Seventeen years ago, I transitioned from business consulting to wine import and distribution. I was driven by my passion for food, wine, and the rich cultures and places that influence them. I worked on creating new markets. I crafted brand stories and built strong teams from the ground up. Through my work, I forged deep relationships with farmers, producers, and industry experts. I learned the complexities of import and distribution logistics and creating lasting partnerships.
But my volunteer experience with Food Rescue US opened my eyes to a painful truth: good food goes to waste while families are hungry. I recognized that logistical barriers were at the root of this problem and knew I could apply my skills to solve it. With few resources dedicated to addressing food waste in our Washington, DC metro community, I founded Sur+.
I leverage my skills in market creation, team building, and partnerships to change surplus food into a resource for those in need. This mission drives me to fight hunger, cut food waste, and help communities thrive. And this is just the beginning. Sur+ has big, audacious goals. We’re ready to make a massive impact.
