Sur+ is a nonprofit founded in 2025. We fight food waste and hunger in lockstep with our community partners. We're a catalyst between businesses with surplus food and those who need it most. Sur+ makes food accessible to feed people, not trash.
Food is meant to fuel life, not contribute to environmental harm. Yet, billions of pounds of nutritious food go to waste every year, while millions of people go hungry. It's a moral and environmental crisis we can't ignore. At Sur+, we believe that surplus food should never be discarded when it can nourish someone in need. By redirecting food from waste to hunger relief, we not only reduce waste but also create lasting impact, Bite X Bite.
Our goal is to normalize the donation of surplus food, driving a substantial reduction in food waste. Continuous progress in alleviating food insecurity is achieved through consistent access to recovered, nutritious food. And a measurable decrease in GHG emissions through food waste diversion in our local communities.
Sur+ is reducing the waste of nutritious food in Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. We bridge the gap between surplus and unmet demand with smart logistics and technology.

Sur+ embodies the spirit of growth, connection, and transformation. The + symbolizes the positive impact we create by connecting surplus food to unmet demand. The arch in our logo represents the strong, supportive bridge we build, uniting food with those facing hunger. The ribbon lettering of our logo, with its gentle curves and flowing movement, symbolizes the seamless flow of surplus food to those in need. It also reflects our commitment to approachability, compassion, flexibility, and gentleness. Together, the name and design reflect our dedication to fostering sustainable growth, strengthening connections, and expanding our positive impact on individuals, families, and the planet.
Trust and accountability are the foundation of everything we do. We are committed to being transparent, reliable, and responsible in all our actions, ensuring that our partners, donors, and communities can count on us to deliver on our mission with integrity and impact. Every step we take is grounded in mutual respect and a shared commitment to creating lasting, positive change.
We approach every challenge with empathy and a deep commitment to understanding the needs of those we serve. By putting people first, we create solutions that not only address hunger and food waste but also foster a sense of community, kindness, and respect. Every action we take is guided by a genuine desire to make the world a better, more caring place for all.
We channel time and energy into building strong relationships. They are the engine of our shared impact. By working together with our partners, we create more effective solutions to fight food waste and hunger. Through these partnerships, we leverage our collective strengths to make a lasting difference in the communities we serve.
We are always creating, learning, and improving, embodying a growth mindset in everything we do. We treat feedback as a valuable gift, using it to refine our efforts and persist through setbacks. Our commitment to progress fuels our determination to overcome challenges and continuously strive for mastery. With every step, we drive forward toward a more sustainable, equitable future, never settling for less than our best.
We are our obsessed with understanding the core problem of food waste and hunger. Knowing that only through a clear understanding of these complexities, can we create effective solutions. While approaches may evolve, the problem persists, and our focus remains on uncovering new insights and perspectives to address it. This relentless pursuit of knowledge, fueled by bold thinking and curiosity, drives us to create lasting, impactful change.

Seventeen years ago, I transitioned from business consulting into wine import and distribution, driven by a passion for food, wine, and the diverse cultures and geographies that shape them. I focused on creating new markets, crafting brand stories, and building high-performing teams from scratch. Through my work, I forged deep relationships with farmers, producers, and industry experts. I learned the complexities of import and distribution logistics and creating lasting partnerships.
But my volunteer experience with Food Rescue US opened my eyes to a painful truth: good food was being wasted while families went hungry. I recognized that logistical barriers were at the root of this problem and knew I could apply my skills to solve it. With few resources dedicated to addressing food waste in our Washington, DC metro community, I founded Sur+. By leveraging my expertise in market creation, team building, and partnerships, I’m committed to transforming surplus food into a resource for those in need.
This mission drives me to make a lasting impact on hunger, food waste, and community sustainability. And this is just the beginning. Sur+ has big, audacious goals. We’re ready to make a massive impact. I invite you to join us in this movement. Together, we’ll drive lasting change and build a more sustainable, equitable future for all. The mission is clear, and the journey has only just begun.
