bite x bite

We don’t have a food shortage problem. We have a food logistics problem.

There’s more than enough food in our region to feed every person who is hungry. Yet every day, perfectly good food is being thrown away while families go without. Businesses want to donate, nonprofits want to feed their communities, but the system in between is broken.

That space in between is where we focus. Bite x Bite.

our Focus

foodgistics: Smart surplus solutions

At Sur+, we don’t just move food. We bridge the disconnect. We're building Foodgistics, a logistics engine that makes surplus donation effortless for businesses and accessible for communities.

We turn barriers into pathways, ensuring fresh food flows to where it’s needed most, while delivering measurable impact along the way.

      Food Sources

      What we recover

Perishables make up 85% of surplus food waste. They're urgently needed yet the hardest to recover.

      That's where we step in.

      We prioritize:

      Produce

Fresh fruits and vegetables, often unsold due to appearance or oversupply

        Prepared Foods

Ready-to-eat meals from restaurants, caterers, or institutional kitchens

          Dairy & Eggs

Milk, cheese, yogurt, and eggs that are fresh but nearing expiration

            Fresh Meat & Seafood

Uncooked, high-protein food requiring fast and safe handling

              Where we get food

Surplus food exists at every point in the supply chain. We partner with businesses to target the highest-impact opportunities and rescue food before it’s wasted.

              Farm

Agricultural operations where crops are grown or animals are raised for food

                Manufacturing

Facilities that process, package, or produce food

                  Retail

Grocery stores, markets, and other businesses that sell food directly to consumers

                    Foodservice

Restaurants, caterers, and institutions that prepare and serve food

                      Empower choice and generosity

                      Pay what you want

If you're like most food businesses, you have surplus food. The question is, what do you do with it?

Sur+ makes the donation process easy. Our Pay What You Want (PWYW) service fits your values, budget, and impact goals.

                      What's the return?
Every $1 contributed through Sur+ returns up to $14 in value for your business — through enhanced tax deductions, reduced disposal costs, and streamlined operations.

All businesses can be part of the solution, regardless of size. Together, we’re turning surplus into shared community impact.

                      flexibility

PWYW makes it easy to participate by removing financial barriers.

                      collaboration

PWYW builds trusting partnerships, valuing each food donor’s unique contribution instead of using strict pricing.

                      inclusivity

PWYW supports businesses of all sizes. It ensures that surplus food from various sources is recovered and redistributed.

                      Ensure dignity and access

                      pay what you Can

Our Pay What You Can (PWYC) model shows our commitment to providing food access with dignity. Research reveals that people express their basic needs through a purchase or an exchange of value.

"The vast majority of those we serve would rather buy their own food." - Capital Area Food Bank

                      dignity

PWYC helps reduce the stigma linked to food assistance. It lets people give what they can.

                      Accessibility

PWYC removes financial obstacles. It ensures everyone can access fresh, healthy food, no matter their income.

                      Ownership

PWYC creates a shared mission, with customers supporting the services, while pitching in to help those who need it the most.

                      reaching the remaining 37%

People in coats and hats open up boxes of food on a table outside

The Capital Area Food Bank shows that 37% of people in the DC metro area face hunger but do not seek help. If this continues to be true, food assistance nonprofits can only help 63% of people in need.

Sur+ aims to address barriers and connect with the remaining 37% in a way that is both convenient and respectful.

That's why we developed our Direct-to-Community (DTC) model.

                      a step further

                      direct-to-community

Radical change requires a collective effort.

Food rescue organizations rely on nonprofits, such as food banks, to share extra food. We too are creating a strong network of trusted redistribution partners.

Sur+ also extends our network through direct community engagement. Working in combination, we maximize our reach and impact.
